Strictly fans fume at Shirley Ballas for ‘underscoring’ in favouritism row

Strictly: Angela Scanlon impresses Shirley with first dance

Strictly Come Dancing judge Shirley Ballas came under fire on Saturday night with many pointing out she seemed to “favour” the male contestants.

The head judge was of marking Angela Scanlon down because she is a “young, attractive, talented female!”

Angela and her pro partner Carlos Gu were the second couple to take to the floor tonight and they danced the Tango.

Following the performance she received positive feedback from Shirley who said she could be “quite the force to be reckoned with.”

A smiling Angela seemed pleased with the feedback as she waited on her score, only to be awarded a five from Shirley.

To add insult to injury Shirley then marked the next celebrity dancer, Eddie Kadi with a 6, and viewers were not impressed taking to X, formerly known as Twitter to vent their anger.

Ironically Shirley’s feedback after the dance had been mainly positive.

“Fantastic staccato movement, which is quite sharp in the feet. Fabulous left arm with Carlos your left arm was in a beautiful place and a very sharp head – those are things that we require,” she said.

Offering some advice she told her, “Moving forward though here needs to be a start place and a finish place when you chose to go separate from Carlos – I didn’t quite see that.

“And if you work on the frame getting a good position in the frame more up to his right side, I think you’re going to be quite the force to be reckoned with.”

Angela is currently second favourite to win the show at 7/2 just behind Bobby Brazier with odds of 11/4 from William Hill.

Strictly Come Dancing returns next Saturday on BBC One.
