Strictly fans say they ‘wasn’t expecting that’ as Ellie wows in hot performance

    Coronation Street star Ellie Leach has been branded the “one to beat” by BBC fans after a “sensational” opening performance of Strictly Come Dancing.

    The ITV star blew both the audience and judges away with her red hot Jive routine as she sauntered onto the dancefloor with professional partner Vito Coppola in a bright orange and yellow tassled jumpsuit.

    Fans immediately spotted the “obvious” chemistry between the pair, dubbing their performance “sensational.”

    “Ellie is the dark horse or rather the shining light of this competition … it’s week one and I’m Seeing a medal finish is hers to lose,” penned one fan.

    Another gushed: “Wasn’t expecting that quality from Ellie. One to watch going forward #strictly,” and “That was an amazing Jive for week One. WOW! Well done Ellie. I'm so excited for what is to come. She was incredible!!!!!! The speed timing footwork and Choreography was sensational. Well done guys.”

    Others remarked on the pair’s undeniable chemistry. “Ellie and Vito oh I can feel the chemistry from my tv sizzling that’s more like it,” gushed a fan.

    as another echoed: “Now that's how you do it. Wow, that was fantastic from Ellie & Vito. No previous dance experience…oozing confidence. Lots of great energy and chemistry. My favourite so far – loved it.”

    The BBC’s flagship dance competition series returned with a bang for its 21st series. The programme has lined up an enviable roster of celebrity guests for the new series including reality star Zara McDermott and veteran Channel 4 broadcaster Krishnan Guru-Murthy, as well as TV presenter Les Dennis.

    Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman returned to present the series alongside the judging panel comprised Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and head judge Shirley Ballas.

    First up was Adam Thomas and Luba Mushtuk who wowed with their performance of the Cha Cha Cha to Waffle House by the Jonas Brothers.

    Fans were full of praise for the star’s opening routine.

    “I don't think I have seen a human smile as much as Adam! I feared he might combust with joy!” said one fan.

    Another penned: “Just give Adam the trophy now!”

    Also impressive viewers was the delightful Angel Rippon, who at 78, she is the oldest celebrity to take part in Strictly in the show’s history. She joined professional dance partner Kai Widdrington dancing to Pink's Get The Party Started, wearing a short and silver, chiffon number with partner Kai who was sporting a silver, glittery jacket.
