Strictly fans ‘work out’ which star will be booted off show first after ‘clue’ in launch show | The Sun

STRICTLY Come Dancing fans are convinced they have called out the first couple for the boot.

The BBC show bounced back with ratings on the rise following the opening episode of the 2023 series which aired on Saturday.

It saw Strictly's crop of celebrities for 2023 dance with their professional partners for the first time.

While Angela Rippon, 78, dazzled the judges with a stunning debut Cha Cha Cha, earning her a score of 28, and Zara McDermott, 26, and partner Graziano bagged a 19 for their first dance of the series, others found themselves at the bottom of the table.

The celebrities were judged out of 40 for their performances and Strictly will combine the scores from the first week with next week's before the first vote.

With BBC Asian Network host Nikita Kanda, 28, and professional Gorka Marquez's Waltz to Whitney Houston classic Run To You failing to impress, fans think their stay on the show will be short.

They scored just 18 out of 40 – with judge Craig Revel-Horwood dishing out a measly three.

Many have flagged the presenter as at risk of elimination, with one musing on X, formerly known as Twitter: "She won’t be in the competition for long which is unfortunate for Gorka."

Another put: "Nikita: pretty but she seemed incredibly out of time," as a third wrote: "Dance Off Prediction – Nikita and Gorka vs Eddie and Karen."

Another mused of Nikita: "She did no dancing in that routine Nikita."

One then referred to Gorka's fiance Gemma Atkinson – who recently gave birth to the couple's second child – and wrote: "I don’t think Gemma need worry that Gorka will be in the competition for the long haul."

Another added on Reddit: "My vote to go home first. Gorka's one of my favourite pros, and Nikita seems like a nice person, but she was stiff as all can be, and I don't feel like the partnership is clicking together. I'll give her another shot next week, but I think they'll leave Sunday night."

Nikita also has her sights set on another, less coveted, Strictly tradition.

She exclusively told The Sun she would happily fall foul of the Strictly curse.

Asked if it could be a blessing, she said with a laugh: “Hopefully, yeah!
“But that’s not in my mindset because I am so focused on enjoying the show and I want to get stuck into it and learn the dances.

"I am fully single. I’m just focused on work now — my breakfast show and Strictly."

Meanwhile, an electric Paso Doble from Casualty actor Nigel Harman and show siren Katya Jones shot them to the top of the leaderboard on Saturday.

Yet there has been more fireworks off-screen, too.

The Sun revealed on Saturday how Sherlock actress Amanda Abbington, 49, had threatened to quit over Giovanni’s “militant” approach.

Amanda had found the pro’s “aggressive training attitude pretty difficult to handle," it was claimed.

But the pair put on a brave face for an impressive performance on Saturday.

Their Viennese Waltz to Pointless by Lewis Capaldi scored 29 — putting them in joint second place on the leaderboard.
