This Morning slammed for scraping the barrel as fans embarrassed to watch

This Morning track down the Skelmorlie Cown

This Morning viewers have slammed the show for “scraping the barrel” after interviewing a man dressed as a clown who has been dotting red balloons around in Skelmorlie in Scotland in recent weeks.

Fans claimed they were “embarrassed to watch it” as Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary earnestly engaged with the segment.

Reporter Isla Traquair, who was live in North Aryshire, spoke via video link while the clown began wandering behind her as Alison shouted: “It’s behind you. It’s behind you Isla. Look!”

Isla then ran an “exclusive interview” with the man who remained in character throughout.

Speaking in rhyme he sounded sinister as he spoke, even name checking Alison as he mentioned the game he runs for the locals and told viewers to look behind them.

Although he emulates the look of Pennywise, the killer clown from horror master Stephen King’s IT, the extent of his mischief is placing red balloons throughout the area.

Isla then chatted to locals who had mixed feelings about the gimmick, which the man, whose identity is unknown, has done for the past three years.

One resident named Angela Jack said she’s not scared of him and saying he’s a “very good addition to the village” and that people “love him”. “They get on well with the jokes that he puts on,” she told Isla.

Viewers were less impressed with the feature however and took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to slam the show for “scraping the barrel”. A fan called @CKurkova ranted: “They must be embarrassed presenting this trip, I’m embarrassed watching it.”

A second viewer called @iamanotherben agreed commenting: “Just when you think they’ve scraped the bottom of the content barrel clean they come up with this.”

Someone else called @Charlie_Gaze quipped: “Plenty of clowns producing #ThisMorning at the moment with the content on display.”
