Tyrone issues a warning to Cassie in Corrie after getting a shock

Tyrone Dobbs (Alan Halsall) has decided to give Cassie Plummer (Claire Sweeney) a chance in Coronation Street.

Cassie is Ty’s biological mother and broke the news to him recently. Understandably, Tyrone was shocked due to the fact he had been told by Evelyn (Maureen Lipman) that his mum was dead.

Evelyn chose to keep Cassie a secret from everyone as she’s addicted to drugs and has been for years. Shortly after Cassie arrived in Weatherfield and learnt all about Evelyn and Tyrone living together, she decided to head to rehab with her mum, ready to face her new family completely clean.

Of course, being a recovering drug addict is never easy, temptation is everywhere and slip ups can happen.

This time, it comes in the form of Cassie getting drunk in the pub while playing gin rummy with Dev (Jimmi Harkishin) and Kirk (Andy Whyment). As Cassie hits the bottle, her chance of wanting to score increases but fortunately, she’s spotted by Tyrone, who drags her home.

Back at No.9, Tyrone hands Cassie a pint of water and tells her that he’s proud of how well she’s doing, but she mustn’t blow it.

Towards the end of the week, Tyrone gives his mum £20 and asks her to get something for dinner.

After a trip to the dentist, Tyrone returns and is concerned that Cassie still isn’t back.

Evelyn warns him to expect the worst, but will Cassie return high on drugs?

‘There’s a lot of anger there,’ Claire Sweeney said. ‘And it’s not just about Tyrone, it goes back to childhood. There is a scene coming up where she talks to Tyrone about why she is the way she is and about her childhood and about her relationship with her mum, who was very cold, never hugged her, never told her she loved her.

‘It was quite a cold relationship really, she even kicked her out when she was a teenager. And so there’s a lot of resentment. You know, fundamentally she does love Evelyn, she’s her mum after all but she finds it hard to forgive the things she’s done to her as a teenager growing up then ultimately even as an adult, she’s she’s continued to lie about about her and she abandoned Cassie’s baby on the steps of a police station.

‘Cassie believes they could have worked something out to keep Tyrone in the family. And then Evelyn has gone back and reaped all the benefits of being a grandma without Cassie.’
