SIR Michael Gambon has sadly passed away aged 82, leaving behind an incredible legacy.
During his life he starred in many blockbuster movies, but some fans still wonder if he appeared in Lord of the Rings.
Was Sir Michael Gambon in Lord of the Rings?
Due to his role as the wizard Dumbledore in Harry Potter, many fans have thought that Sir Michael John Gambon was also in Lord of The Rings too.
But the actor was never in any of the films, or The Hobbit movies.
Over the years some fans have been confused, and thought Sir Michael played Gandalf due to the two wizards being quite similar.
But the only wizard he ever played was Harry Potter's headmaster, Dumbledore.

Who played Gandalf in Lord of the Rings?
Gandalf the Grey was in fact played by Sir Ian McKellen.
It was a role he had in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings movies.
Interestingly, Sir Ian once revealed how he used to get mistaken for Sir Michael all the time.
He was even approached about the role of Dumbledore after Richard Harris – the first actor to play the role – died.

Sir Ian said Richard once called him a “technically brilliant, but passionless” actor – something he remembered when he was considering the role.
“I couldn’t take over the part from an actor who I’d known didn’t approve of me,”he said in an interview with BBC’s HARDTalk in 2017.
But speaking about his similarities with Sir Michael, he said: “Sometimes, when I see the posters of Mike Gambon, the actor who gloriously plays Dumbledore, I think sometimes it is me."
Which films was Sir Michael Gambon in?
Michael was best known for playing Professor Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter franchise from 2004, starting with the Prisoner of Azkaban.
After that he reprised the beloved role in every one of the Harry Potter films until the franchise ended with the Deathly Hallows Part 2 in 2011.
Away from the boy wizard films, he also starred in Sleepy Hollow, The King's Speech, and Paddington.
Which plays was Sir Michael Gambon in?
Sir Michael started his acting career in the theatre, with Laurence Olivier as one of the original members of the Royal National Theatre.
He appeared in many plays by William Shakespeare such as Othello, Hamlet, Macbeth and Coriolanus.
