A man in China who borrowed £22 to get back home after being left penniless after losing his job travelled more than 200 miles to pay off his debt to a kindly cop who lent him money.
The man, who has not been named, was working in China’s Hubei province when he was laid off, and left without any money.
He didn’t even have a phone, as he had sold it for cash, and couldn’t afford to travel anywhere.
He walked to his local police station, Yinji police station on the outskirts of Xiangyang, and asked for help, as he had no way of contacting his friends or family.
There, a police officer, whose surname is Luo, bought him a meal and lent him 200 yuan (£22) to travel home to his parents in Henan province, 217 miles away.

He left a note which read: ‘Today I am borrowing 200 yuan from a police officer at Yinji police station. When I get home, I will ask my parents for money to repay the loan from the police’
The grateful man left an IOU note that read: ‘Today I am borrowing 200 yuan from a police officer at Yinji police station. When I get home, I will ask my parents for money to repay the loan from the police.’
He was later seen walking into Yinji police station carrying a bag of oranges, and asked the officer at the desk where Officer Luo was.
After sitting down in a room together, the unnamed man explained that he was back in the station to return the money to the officer.
Video of the event reportedly shows Yuo declining the money, but sharing the oranges the man. He is heard saying: ‘Helping others makes us feel happy.’
But as he was leaving, the unnamed man slipped the money into Luo’s pocket, before running away.
The story melted the hearts of Chinese social media users. One said: ‘A policeman offers selfless help, and the boy has a heart filled with gratitude.’
Another added: ‘It is wonderful when two kind-hearted people meet.’
