Shocking moment driver punches mother in a Lidl car park in front of terrified shoppers after he chased her from nearby Sainsbury’s when she overtook him

  • Linda Schofield said she was punched in the back after overtaking a Ford Fiesta

This is the moment a man punched a woman in a car park in front of terrified shoppers after he chased her for overtaking him in a shocking instance of road rage.

Linda Schofield said the violence was sparked after she overtook him on a dual carriageway after leaving Sainsbury’s in Camberley, Surrey.

Believing the 57-year-old mum-of-two had almost ’caused a crash’, the angry man allegedly pursued Linda for five minutes all the way to a Lidl car park, where he confronted her in front of other shoppers.

Shocking footage shows the driver say ‘I’m going to punch you in the face’ while holding up his fist, before allegedly striking the terrified mum twice in the back as witnesses shouted to ‘get his number plate’.

The motorist then sped off as Linda pleaded for witnesses to call the police.

Ms Schofield, a farm shop worker who is Camberley resident, said the incident left her feeling ‘shocked and intimidated’.

Now she is worried about bumping into him again while shopping.

She said: ‘I was shocked and shaken. It makes you feel like you’re not safe. I feel intimidated by him. It was just vile.

‘A lot of people said why didn’t you punch him back? But I was just in shock. I was scared he was going to attack me again.

‘If I turned around and pushed him, I didn’t know what he would do. I was scared I would get seriously hurt.

The man punched the mum-of-two in the back twice and accused her of nearly causing a crash

‘It’s definitely made me nervous to go back to Lidl. And I’m really wary of blue Ford Fiestas now. What do I do if I see him in the shop?’

Hampshire Police confirmed they were investigating reports of a man who allegedly threatened a woman and hit her twice before driving away on October 25. They are appealing for any information from the public.

The mum claims the motorist followed her for five minutes to nearby Lidl for just overtaking him and that she wasn’t driving dangerously or speeding.

Ms Schofield added: ‘He was in front of me at the traffic lights to come out of Sainsbury’s then we both went left.

‘Then I overtook him on the dual carriageway, not dangerously or anything. I wasn’t speeding.

‘After I’d overtaken him, at the next traffic lights, I could see that he was behind me and trying to get closer and closer to my bumper. And I thought that’s a bit weird.

‘Then the traffic lights turned to green and I indicated to go to Lidl and I looked and he was coming in as well.

‘He was following me into Lidl car park – he wasn’t intending to go to Lidl.

‘As I parked he whizzed up at the side of me, left his car in gear so his car lurched forward so that’s when I thought this isn’t right and pressed record on my phone.

‘I thought what is he doing? I was concerned.

‘He said something like ‘you’re trying to crash’. And I thought how on earth have I done that?

‘Then he said ‘I’m going to punch you in the face’. There was no prior conversation.’

The mum-of-two then went to film the driver’s number plate when the man allegedly paced around his car and punched her in the back twice, leaving her with two red marks.

Ms Schofield continued: ‘It hurt and I had two red marks afterwards.

‘I went into Lidl to see if they had CCTV and the manager called the police. She looked at my back and said you’ve got red marks on your back.

‘It’s scary and unexpected. I was on my own.

‘My family was fuming. Nobody who sees that video can believe it.

‘All I did was overtake him on the dual carriageway.’

Ms Schofield submitted an online report to Hampshire Police the following day and said an officer informed her the driver would be given a caution.

However, the concerned mum believes the motorist should be prosecuted to prevent any further attacks.

She said: ‘I said [to the police officer] will he not be prosecuted for this? I said it may not be urgent for you, but it is for me.

‘I don’t think the police are bothered about this guy going around punching people.

‘He should be prosecuted for assault. He can’t go around doing this.’

A Hampshire Police spokesperson said: ‘We were called on 25 October to a report of an assault at the Lidl car park on London Road in Blackwater.

‘A woman was threatened by a man, who then hit her in the back twice.

‘The man then got into a vehicle a drove away. No injuries were reported.

‘Officers have launched an investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting 44230436907. ‘

A Lidl spokesperson said: ‘We can confirm that on October 25, colleagues at our Blackwater store provided comfort and support to a member of the public following an incident that occurred outside of the store.

‘As this is a police matter, we are unable to provide any further information but will continue to assist the authorities in any way that’s helpful.’
