Two injured as plane overshoots runway at Barwon Heads airport

Two people have been injured after a light plane crashed on Victoria’s Bellarine Peninsula on Friday morning.

Emergency services were called to Barwon Heads airport in Connewarre, south-east of Geelong, following an aircraft incident.

“It’s believed two people may have suffered non-life-threatening injuries,” police said in a statement.

A Country Fire Authority spokesperson said four Leopold units alongside crews from Fire Rescue Victoria and State Emergency Service responded to an aircraft incident on Barwon Heads Road in Leopold around 8am.

“Crews discovered [the] aircraft ran off the end of the runway. All passengers [are] out of the plane with minor injuries,” the spokesperson said.

Ambulance Victoria were called to the scene.

Air ambulances could be seen landing near the area.
