Viral movie-theater experience at Fork n’ Film gives fans of ‘Harry Potter,’ ‘Ratatouille,’ and more a chance to eat dishes straight from the screen
- Fork N’Film is an immersive movie-theater experience with a multi-course meal catered to some of the most iconic films of all time
- The business currently has a location in Los Angeles and is set to host its first screenings in New York City in October
- TikToks showcasing the experience have already gone viral, racking up millions of views and thousands of comments
If you’ve ever watched ‘Harry Potter’ and been eager to try magic dishes including Butterbeer or Harry’s ‘birthdae’ cake from Hagrid, a new immersive theater experience may be just the ticket for you.
Fork n’ Film is a dinner-movie event where guests are served a multi-course meal catered specially to the film they’re watching.
The Los Angeles based business is expanding to New York and while tickets can cost up to $300 a person, eight screenings in October sold out within a matter of hours.
During the event, perfectly timed dishes are delivered to your table as they appear on screen – along with nods to the film like bubbling potions and golden snitches.
Owners Francesca Duncan and Nick Houston said they are shocked by the sensation their business has become but understand why it has appealed to so many people.
‘Some of our food moments are connected to home, and family, and love,’ Houston told DailyMail.com. ‘Every single person has had an experience where they are watching a TV show or movie and they want to eat what they see on screen.’

According to Duncan, the idea for the business came to them while they were watching ‘Matilda’ and the chocolate cake scene began playing.
In the scene, the character Bruce is forced by the school principal Miss. Trunchbull to eat an enormous cake by himself after stealing a single slice.
‘That looks really really good, I wish that I could eat or -or at least try it,’ she said of her thoughts while watching Bruce eat the now iconic chocolate cake.
From there, the couple brainstormed what they could do with their idea and how they could bring their vision to life for other hungry movie lovers.
‘What if we made a restaurant or an experience that people could try their favorite dishes from movies,’ Duncan said, describing their process getting to Fork n’ Film.
After test runs in the early summer, the business officially opened in June on the West Coast with ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone.’
While watching ‘Harry Potter’ viewers are treated to a multi-course meal where they can mix their own potions and dig into Hogwarts’ famous feast.
Following success there, Fork n’ Film pulled off Disney’s ‘Ratatouille’ in LA.
During the screening of ‘Ratatouille,’ a side salad was served in a small trash can and ticketholders got the chance to make Remy’s soup as the rat makes it in the film.
They plan to screen ‘Hocus Pocus’ and ‘The Nightmare Before Christmas’ next.
Both Halloween films sold out in just minutes, according to TikTok users.
‘It’s unreal,’ said Duncan, adding that they still cannot believe the demand.

Duncan and Houston credited an influencer who posted about the business with their widespread and quick success among film fans.
A TikTok video posted in early June by influencer @JenZLosAngeles went mega-viral, amassing more than 6.6 million views and 900,000 likes.
The video received some 5,000 comments from TikTok viewers sharing their own need for tickets along with requests for future movies.
‘I wanna go so bad but with a studio Ghibli film,’ wrote one person.
‘I want the burger from the menu movie,’ another person shared.
According to Houston, plans are in the works to fulfill both of the aforementioned requests within the next couple of months.
Fork n’ Film is currently working to schedule screenings of ‘Spirited Away’ in January and ‘The Menu’ at some point down the line, he said.
Additionally, Duncan and Houston said they hope to put on ‘White Chicks,’ ‘Matilda,’ ‘The Princess and the Frog,’ and more foodie fan favorites.
In the nearer future, the business is launching tickets to their Christmas movie showings in Los Angeles, which will begin in November and run through January.
The couple said they carefully chose ‘Elf’ and ‘Polar Express’ and are eager for fans to try some of the interesting dishes they are charting out for the movies.
In Will Ferrell’s Christmas comedy, his character Buddy at one point eats a bowl of spaghetti with maple syrup, chocolate syrup, M&M’s, marshmallows, and a Pop Tart.
Tickets for those screenings go on sale on September 8 at 5pm.

Aside from the chocolate cake in ‘Matilda,’ Duncan said she has always wanted to try the cake from ‘Sleeping Beauty’ and the pink custard from ‘Teletubbies.’
She said dishes like those inspire them to keep going with their business and their dream of one day opening a restaurant that serves food from film and TV daily.
In the meantime, they are staying focused on opening Fork n’ Film’s New York City location, which opens in October.
If you are hoping to score tickets to a show in the Big Apple sometime soon, you will have remain on standby as all showings are currently sold out.
However, the venue where the ‘immersive culinary experience’ will be held in NYC is inside and should be able to accommodate guests year-round, they said.
Duncan and Houston said they hope to launch additional showings soon, as well as in more cities including Las Vegas, Miami, and San Francisco.

To keep the screenings intimate, each showing seats no more than 50 people
As they work to add more showtimes for excited fans, the couple said they are still focused on keeping the shows small to give each guest an unforgettable experience.
‘The goal is to keep it under 50 people,’ Houston said. ‘To keep that boutique feel, very intimate. Adding too many people dilutes it.’
For Los Angeles, about 32 tickets are released per event while New York City is currently selling 45 tickets per showing.
As long as they continue to see a high demand, Duncan and Houston plan to keep the movies – and the dishes – coming.
‘There’s something humans love about eating and watching a movie at the same time,’ Duncan told DailyMail.com. ‘It’s just something people love to do.’
