I gave my boring sofa a DIY transformationwith £20 paint hack, people's minds are blown | The Sun

A DIY fanatic turned her battered sofa into an iconic living room piece with a savvy £20 hack.

Emma – who runs her own independent lifestyle store Form and Balance – said there's nothing she won't paint, or at least try to.

And that includes the grey couch she picked up from a warehouse sale which was badly damaged at the back, ripped underneath and had a few dark paint spills on the side.

"As I always say, you have to see the potential in these pieces and with a little TLC she’s now looking a lot more iconic", Emma said.

The interior designer, from Glasgow, started off by giving her couch a good hoover and clean.

She then mixed her olive fabric paint before using a spay bottle of water to dampen the areas she wanted to paint.

"While the fabric is damp brush on the paint evenly, for the final brush stroke try to go in the direction of the fabric if it’s a velvet", she said.

"While the fabric is slightly damp with paint, using an upholstery brush give the are a good brush to help the fabric keep its softness.

"Leave to dry and repeat. I gave ours about two coats plus touch ups."

She added: "Once dry flip over and using a staple gun attach a layer of dark fabric working your way around the sofa. Try and keep this as tight as possible.

"And there you go, a gorgeous refreshed sofa. If in doubt get the upholstery paint out."

A 500ml bottle of the Fabricoat fabric paint works out at just £19.95, making it way cheaper than buying a new couch – even with the five bottles needed for a three-seater couch.

Emma's sofa transformation has racked up more than 39,000 views, and it's blowing people's minds.
