Flight delayed? Here's how you can get free airport lounge access

Anyone who’s been on a plane journey has been delayed one time or another, but this little trick means you’ll at least wait in style.

That’s because O2, the phone provider, has a scheme that allows customers to access one of thousands of airport lounges if their flight is delayed.

And as it’s part of their Priority perks, it also includes Virgin Media customers who can also get into swanky airport lounges around the world.

If your flight is delayed by an hour or more, you and up to three friends or family members will be allowed free access to an airport lounge.

The scheme, called Priority Smart Delay, was in operation before the pandemic and has now been resumed – much to the delight of weary travellers.

It works in partnership with airport lounge club Lounge Key, a restricted version of Priority Pass which offers entry to over 1,400 airport lounges globally.

Here’s how to get free airport lounge access through O2:

Don’t just take our word for it either. Writer Suzanne Baum recently went on a delayed trip to France and was able to use the offer.

She told Metro.co.uk: ‘I’m used to flights being delayed, that’s part of travel these days.

‘We were travelling to Nice (me, my husband and three sons) for our nephew’s wedding and so arrived at Heathrow very excited, only to watch our flight get pushed back more and more.

‘The airline staff told us lots of flights were cancelled and ours was a packed flight and some hand luggage had to be put in cabin storage. I was getting more irritated by the delay and then my husband remembered he’d read something about the lounge perk as we are O2 members.

‘We had to wait until our flight was an hour delayed to benefit from it and as soon as the hour was up, we got an email with tickets for the lounge. It was a nice perk and I was able to enjoy some wine.’

Kind of makes flight delays appealing.
