I'm a former Man Utd star, Sir Alex Ferguson clipped me round the head and made me apologise after canteen outburst | The Sun

DANNY DRINKWATER has opened up on the hilarious moment he received a clip round the head from legendary boss Sir Alex Ferguson.

Drinkwater, 33, has called time on his playing career after spending the last year without a club.

The former England midfielder made just 12 league appearances in five years at Chelsea.

But Drinkwater remains a favourite with Leicester after helping them to 2016’s historic Premier League title win.

And speaking to the High Performance podcast, the player himself has fond memories of his early playing years at Manchester United.

Drinkwater fought his way up the ranks before earning several loan moves.

His Red Devils career was cut short without a single senior appearance when he was sold to Leicester in 2012.

But Drinkwater will never forget one of his few encounters with Sir Alex.

The iconic tactician led United to 13 titles during a glittering era.

He achieved success by running a tight ship, and although Drinkwater was still a youngster at the time, he too could not escape Fergie’s wrath following a hilarious canteen outburst.

The newly-retired man laughed as he said: “I had a few dealings with Sir Alex.

“For some reason I was close to the chefs and was waiting for a spag bol to be done fresh.

“I was like ‘bloody hell, any chance (you can hurry up)?!’

“Next min, boof round the back of my head, and he (Fergie) says ‘you dare speak to him again like that, apologise’.
