Ricky Evans hits fastest nine-darter fans claim quicker than speed of light

Ricky Evans hit one of the fastest-ever nine-darters as dart fans claim it was ‘quicker than the speed of light’.

Evans, who has the nickname ‘Rapid’, is one of the fastest throwing darts players around and makes the sport look effortless when he’s on top form, as he was against Callan Rydz in the Players Championship on Thursday.

The world-ranked number 50 lit up the action in Barnsley as he nailed two maximums with his first visits to the board before the camera struggled to keep up with his T20, T19 and D12 combo. Evans walked towards the board to retrieve his darts with his arms stretched aloft and was greeted by applause from Rydz, who gave his opponent a high five.

A second questioned: “Is that the fastest nine?” While a third said: “Love him in full flow.” A fourth added: “He’s faster than the speed of light, get up em Ricky.”

Evans’ nine-darter may certainly worry the history books after the total time of the leg from the first dart that Evans threw until he pinned D12 was 40 seconds. A look at his time at the oche amounts to around eight or nine seconds – it would certainly be close to the record, if not breaking it.

The Kettering-born arrowsmith ran out a 6-4 winner against Rydz before he was beaten in the last 32 by Pole Radek Szaganski, who came unstuck against former world champion Rob Cross the following round.
