Ruth Langsford says Eamonn helped her overcome imposter syndrome
Ruth Langsford has paid tribute to her husband Eamonn Holmes for helping her overcome her imposter syndrome.
On Tuesday’s instalment of Loose Women, the panellists were discussing Brenda Edwards’ news that she’s set to make her directing debut for Hairspray the musical next year.
However, the conversation quickly moved on to Ruth’s career as she told her co-stars she didn’t intend to become a presenter.
She said: “I have to say, when I met Eamonn, I had imposter syndrome because I didn’t ever set out to be a presenter.
“I loved working in television, I wanted to be a floor manager.”

Looking behind to the camera crew she jokingly apologised as she told the team she’d take their job.
She added: “I didn’t ever have aspirations to be on TV and I got this lucky break, this amazing moment.
“But I’ve always had that kind of, ‘Oh you know I’ve never trained as a presenter, didn’t train as a journalist.’ 30 years I’ve been doing it.”
Ruth started her on-screen career when she joined Television South West in the early 1990s before joining the Loose Women panel in 1999.

Touching on her imposter syndrome, Ruth continued: “It was Eamonn actually who went, ‘You’ve got to stop that, that’s nonsense, you’re as good as everybody else, better than many.’
“So, sometimes you need someone in your life who goes, ‘You’re really good’ or tells you to believe in yourself and you can do this.”
Interjecting, Janet Street-Porter revealed nobody told her to believe in herself as Eamonn had done to Ruth.
She admitted: “I told myself because by the age of 14, I was determined to be successful.”
Ruth has been a staple at ITV for many decades and hosted Friday instalments of This Morning alongside her husband Eamonn for 15 years.
The husband and wife duo became fan favourites, they were replaced by Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary in 2020.
Although she may no longer be part of the daytime show, Ruth still fronts Loose Women alongside the likes of Coleen Nolan, Linda Robson, Jane Moore and Kaye Adams.
Loose Women continues weekdays on ITV from 12.30pm.
