King Charles dons array of tartans during summer in Balmoral

The King of Kilts: Monarch Charles dons an array of tartans during summer in Balmoral as he embraces traditional Highland dress

He is more often found wearing a kilt than donning trousers in Scotland.

And it appears King Charles has been keen to give his collection an outing – by wearing at least five different tartans in the space of two months.

In early August the King attended the Mey Highland Games in John o’ Groats, in Edward Stewart tartan.

He was then spotted at Balmoral wearing the Stewart Hunting tartan.

At the start of this month he wore the new King Charles III tartan to the Braemar Gathering before donning a Hunting Rothesay tartan at Crathie Parish Church.

Five days later he returned to the church in a Weathered Royal Stewart tartan.

The tradition for Royals to wear tartan while in Scotland dates back more than a century.
