Kid Rock has followed in the footsteps of Tyler Perry. One day after the “The Paynes” filmmaker admitted to playing secret Santa to 1,500 Walmart customers in Atlanta, Georgia, the “All Summer Long” singer announced on Twitter that he did his at a Walmart store in Nashville, Tennessee.
On Friday, December 7, the former husband of Pamela Anderson took to Twitter to reveal his own good deed that was inspired by Tyler’s. Tagging the 49-year-old filmmaker, the musician tweeted, “Great idea! I followed your lead and paid off the layaway at my local Walmart in Nashville. Merry Christmas and God Bless You!”
Confirming Kid’s claim was Tom Meyer, a manager of a Walmart store at 3458 Dickerson Pike. Meyer told WBIR that the 47-year-old singer has donated about $81,000 to pay off 350 layaway accounts. “Kudos to Kid Rock for making such a gesture in our community,” he said. “I think that’s a pretty Nashville proud moment.”
According to Meyer, Kid called the store on December 7 morning to express his intention. Later that day, his manager came to make real on his promise. On what items the customers booked, Meyer guessed most of them were likely Christmas gifts since his store offers layaway program only during the holidays.
Walmart didn’t miss out on Kid’s and Tyler’s generosity. Through its Twitter account, the retail corporation expressed its delight, “This is awesome! You guys are spreading the Christmas spirit like crazy.” It concluded with a hashtag of “Spark Kindness.”
Tyler himself came forward about his Walmart donation on December 6. Posting a video on Twitter, he reluctantly admitted to paying off layaway accounts at two Walmart stores in Atlanta, Georgia. “I know it’s hard times, a lot of people are struggling and I’m just really, really grateful to be able to be in a position to do this,” the man behind the Madea film franchise divulged. “So God bless you, go get your stuff and Merry Christmas.”
