Deontay Wilder in line for 2023 WBC title eliminator against Andy Ruiz Jr with winner challenging for Tyson Fury's belt | The Sun

DEONTAY WILDER is in line to fight Andy Ruiz Jr in a WBC final title eliminator next year.

Ruiz returned to the ring in September, beating Luis Ortiz on points in an eliminator for Tyson Fury's heavyweight belt.

Wilder, 36, faces Robert Helenius, 38, in his comeback bout over the weekend in a similar eliminator.

If the American wins, he will then face Ruiz, 33, to determine the mandatory challenger for Fury's title.

Ruiz's trainer Alfredo Osuna told Los Talegones: "Right now what is most heard and the next step, first of all, God, they are going to wait for Wilder to fight.

"And if he wins, Andy Ruiz vs Wilder would be signed in November. And it would be taking place the following year, May, April.

"I think the winner is going to face the guy everybody wants to fight, Tyson Fury."

And with the pair both promoted by Premier Boxing Champions, it makes an in-house headline easy to negotiate.

Wilder said on The Last Stand Podcast: “You gotta speak things into existence.

“October 15th I’ve got to handle business in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center.

Wilder has not fought since being knocked out by Fury, 34, in their trilogy bout last October, but will do so against Helenius, 38.
