Innocent series two has been airing an episode every night this week with the finale being shown on ITV this evening, Thursday, May 20. Fans will be able to find out what really happened on the night of Matty Taylor’s death and who was responsible. There are numerous suspects in the firing line but who wanted to see the teenager dead?
WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Innocent.
Will there be an Innocent season 3?
The first season of Innocent originally aired back in May 2018 which focused on the murder of Tara.
Her husband David Collins (played by Lee Ingleby) had been convicted of the murder and spent just seven years in prison for the crime.
This time around, series two has been about Sally Wright (Katherine Kelly) who had been wrongly accused of murdering student Matty and was behind bars for five years.
The killer remains at large though so it has been up to DCI Mike Braithwaite (Shaun Dooley) and his team to find the truth.
There hadn’t been any mention of Innocent for quite some time following the end of series one.
Season two hadn’t been confirmed until September 2020, more than two years after the first season.
Series two then eventually arrived on our screens three years after the launch of Innocent and the story of Tara’s murder.
And so far, there has been no mention on whether or not there will be a season three to look forward to.
As of writing this article, ITV has not stated if Innocent will return for a third series.
But that doesn’t mean it won’t though as the final of the second season hasn’t even aired yet.
The fact ITV hasn’t said it will be cancelled or that this is the final series is also a positive sign.
Nevertheless, even if Innocent does come back, it could be quite sometime before the new episodes air.

Innocent season 2 cast: Who is Michael Stevenson? [EXPLAINER]
There was a three-year gap between seasons one and two of Innocent.
So it could be the same story if another series was to be made, meaning Innocent may not return until 2024.
Another positive of the show making a comeback though is the fact that it is an anthology series, with a new story being told every season.
Express.co.uk will update this article once more information has been released.
Season two’s finale will be shown tonight with fans expecting the killer’s identity to be revealed.
At the end of the penultimate episode, it looked like Sam Wright’s (Jamie Bamber) alibi could be fake as he received a suspicious voicemail from said person.
Meanwhile, Karen Moss (Priyanga Burford) is lying to the police about having contact with Matty on the day of his death.
Is she just scared of getting into trouble or is Karen trying to cover her tracks as she is the real murderer?
Innocent is available to watch on ITV Hub.
